Patients are often sent by their general dentist for evaluation of suspicious lesions in the mouth. These lesions can range from the most harmless and superficial to life threatening issues. Dr. Edenbaum evaluates these lesions and will usually perform a biopsy, in which a small piece of tissue is harvested from the lesion, or in many cases the entire lesion is removed. The specimen is then sent to an oral pathology laboratory and examined under a microscope by a team of pathologists. Once a diagnosis has been made, the appropriate treatment may begin.
